How to Cheat at Craps

1.      Past Posting

Past posting is a common type of cheating in dice games. When you play craps, you need to place your bet on an option on the game table. After the game is played and the outcome is made known, the place of your bet indicates whether or not you have won.

The whole idea of past posting is that you move your chips on the winning spot to ensure that you win the bet before the dealer sees and begins paying out bets.

There are two issues with this form of cheating. Not only do you need to hope that casino employees do not see you moving your bet, but you also need to hope that the croupier does not remember what your original bet was.

We really wouldn’t recommend trying past posting. A craps player who once tried using the method at a US casino dice table was able to score himself about $86,000 in winnings. But the winnings were confiscated when he was discovered, and his real net profit was a seven-year minimum prison sentence.

2.      Loaded Dice

If you have ever watched a film that featured somebody cheating at craps, chances are, the player tried to do so using loaded dice. This technique involves tampering with the dice in your hand so that when you roll, it is more likely to land on certain numbers.

The most common way to is an attempt to shave edges. It is estimated that even the slightest change of weight in an area of a die can change craps odds dramatically.

So, there are a few reasons that you should never try to cheat with loaded dice in a casino. Firstly, you would need some epic sleight of hands to replace the casino game die. And not every player is dually great at craps and magic.

Secondly, casinos mark their die with serial numbers, and they are transparent. So, if you replaced the dice on the table, it would be almost immediately noticeable.

3.      Hop Bets

If you are sick of trying to fool croupiers, you can always get them in on the scheme. A hop bet is perfectly legal, where the player attempts to predict two single numbers on a pair of dice. Because there are so many options, craps tables don’t usually have these options on the table.

So, players need to call out hop bets so the dealer can hear it. And herein lies an easy way to cheat, if there aren’t a lot of players around the table, you could make an agreement with the dealer to interpret your next bet as whatever winning number is required.

The result is that you would win easily, but you would have to split your winnings with the croupier. As a hop bet has 452 billion-to-one odds, this isn’t really a cheat we recommend you use on a repetitive basis.

Generally, casinos have a hard time identifying people who cheat with hop bets. However, nobody is so lucky to win such a bet twice.

4.      Rhythmic Rolling

Anybody who has played any sort of board game with dice knows that you can manipulate dice outcomes. It has all got to do with the way you roll it.

Technically, there is nothing wrong with manipulating a roll in this way. Remember, as long as the dice hit the back of the table, your roll is valid.

However, this does not mean that casinos like the idea of players using this technique. In fact, expect them to approach instances of rhythmic rolling in the same way they would card counting. Which means you are probably going to be asked to leave the casino.

5.      Sliding Dice

Sliding dice is pretty similar to rhythmic rolling, but this technique is illegal. This form of rolling completely eliminates the randomness that comes with a normal dice roll. It is pretty easy to learn how to slide dice, but we wouldn’t recommend it.

Casinos are trained at identifying players who slide dice. So, although different players roll the dice in all sorts of weird and wonderful ways, if you slide on a frequent basis, you will be identified. And, you will probably also be charged with a criminal offense.
