The Parlay Betting System

Updated on: December 2nd, 2020

The parlay betting system is one of the many systems available to you in the game of roulette. But, out of all the options, this system is one of the easiest to understand and use. Some of the other betting systems in roulette include the Martingale system, the Parole system, the D’ Alembert system, and the Fibonacci system.

The word “parlay” in direct translation means “combination bet” which is exactly what it is. The parlay betting system can be used on inside and outside bets. The parlay system can be used as a strategy in other casino games too.

How the Parlay Betting System Works

So essentially you get progressive betting systems and none progressive betting systems. This particular roulette system falls in the positive progression category as do the Martingale and D’ Alembert systems. However, the other two systems have certain disadvantages that come with using this system. With the parlay system, there are no drawbacks.

The parlay system suggests that you first decide on the kind of bet you would like to make as well as how much you are willing to wager on that bet. If it so happens that your bet wins, then you must increase your bet amount for the next round, and you must continue to do this for every win you get. This is what a positive progression system does.

But, as we all know, online roulette is a game of luck, so if you do not win the round, the parlay system states that you must return to your initial wager amount. You must return to your very first wager amount otherwise you are not abiding by the rules of the system. This particular system is designed to initiate optimal wins and to soften the blow of possible losses.

Parlay Bet Example

An important aspect of the parlay system is that you must set a win goal at the start of the game. Once you have achieved this goal, you must abandon the game. And start on a clean slate in a brand new game.

For example, if you have decided that your win goal for one particular roulette game is $200, then you must stop once you’ve reached that amount. So, your first wager might be $20, if that wins, you’ll wager $40 the next time. If that bet also wins, you’ll bet $80, then $160. If our final bet also wins you’ll take your $200 in profit and leave the game. If you lose at any point during the game, you must revert back to your $20 bet.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Using This System

To help you decide whether the parlay betting system is one you would use, we’ve gathered all the pros and cons that come with the system for you to analyze. Fortunately, the good outweighs the bad. See below.

  • The parlay system suggests that you make small bets, which means that your losses will be small too.
  • The system is straightforward, so there’s very little thinking or tough decision making to do.
  • You can use the system on all types of bets, not just even money bets.
  • On the other hand, there is no guarantee of back to back wins, like in the example above, which makes things tricky.
  • You must bear the risk of betting frequently on bets that have high odds of losing.

Origins of the Parlay Betting System

The origins of this particular system go way back to the 16th century, long before the birth of your great grandparents. It was created and used by aristocrats in a popular game at the time called “basset”. Aristocrats were people of high social standing, and this is the kind of people which this type of game was reserved for.

Regardless of the game you were playing, if you had a winning bet, you would increase your initial wager, and the one after that for as long your winning streak lasts. If you experienced a loss, you would revert back to a lesser wager. The fundamentals of the bet remained the same throughout the ages.
